Domestic abuse biggest threat to child protection
I read this interesting article ………
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-50294046
and have to say, I totally agree. All too often, I am asked to attend child protection conferences to support the victim of the abuse and all too often, the victim is left feeling that she has to jump through hoops to ‘prove’ herself a worthy mother! Don’t get me wrong. This is not a result of unprofessionalism on the part of the Child Protection Chair person or the involved agencies/organisations. It is the result of a societal system which is outdated and not fit for purpose. Where women who have been abused are made to feel that they are at fault. That they are not a ‘good mother’ – whilst the perpetrator is not held accountable by the current system and can not be held so by any of the involved professionals.
When is this going to be addressed? When are we going to start helping the women to escape and live free of abuse instead of colluding with the perpetrator!
